WhaleHub Auto-Restake: Compound AQUA Rewards Automatically

How WhaleHub auto-restake works: a weekly keeper restakes AQUA rewards: 70% as staked BLUB, 30% to the boosted vault. Rules, limits, opting out.

WhaleHub auto-restake: AQUA rewards compounded automatically every week

Updated 20 October 2026: rules read from WhaleHub's staking contract on-chain (auto-compound config and claim and unstake cooldowns); first runs confirmed on Horizon.

WhaleHub auto-restake compounds your AQUA staking rewards without you signing anything after the first time. Switch it on once and, every week when your claim cooldown ends, a keeper restakes your pending AQUA: 70% goes back into your stake as BLUB and 30% goes into the boosted vault in your name. It is open to stakers with at least 150,000 BLUB and went live on 19 October 2026.

Why auto-restake exists

Staking rewards on WhaleHub are paid in AQUA and can be claimed once every 7 days. Without auto-restake, growing your stake means coming back every week, claiming, and staking again. Auto-restake does that loop for you, so rewards start earning again the moment they are released.

Compounding only helps if it actually happens. Most people miss weeks, and each missed week is a week of rewards that earn nothing. On Stellar the fee is not the obstacle; a transaction costs a fraction of a cent. The obstacle is attention. For the maths of why frequency matters, see auto-compounding explained.

How it works, step by step

  1. You opt in. On the Stake page, switch on auto-restake and sign once. The contract checks that the feature is enabled and that you have at least 150,000 BLUB staked.
  2. The keeper checks daily. At 03:00 UTC WhaleHub's keeper looks at every opted-in wallet and skips any that is not due, has less than 20 AQUA pending, or has dropped below the minimum stake.
  3. Your rewards are settled. For a wallet that is due, the contract settles the pending AQUA exactly as a claim would, which also restarts the 7-day cooldown.
  4. 70% is restaked. That share is added to a single rolling auto-restake lock in your position and minted as BLUB, one per AQUA, with none of it diverted to protocol liquidity. The AQUA joins the pool queued for ICE voting power, like any stake.
  5. 30% goes to the vault. The rest is deposited into the boosted vault as AQUA alone, and you receive vault shares. If the vault price moves against the quote taken just before, the whole run is cancelled and retried later rather than accepting a bad price.

Each run is an ordinary Stellar transaction you can look up. The first two ran on 19 October 2026 at 03:00 and 03:03 UTC.

Why 70/30

The 70% restake grows the position that earns staking rewards, and so the AQUA behind WhaleHub's ICE voting power. The 30% builds a second position in the boosted vault, which earns from a different stream: WhaleHub pays 30% of its AQUA income into that vault as extra liquidity without minting new shares. The split spreads your compounding across both. It is set in the contract's configuration, which only the 2-of-3 admin multisig can change.

What changes for you

  • No manual claims. While the switch is on, the Claim and Restake buttons are disabled, because the keeper settles your rewards. Turn it off and they work again straight away.
  • Your stake grows weekly. Each run adds the restaked BLUB to your staked balance, so your share of future rewards rises with it.
  • Unstaking follows the normal rules. Restaked BLUB can be unstaked like any other stake, with the standard 10-day unstake cooldown.
  • You hold vault shares. The 30% share appears as your position in the boosted vault, which you can withdraw from separately.

What the keeper can and cannot do

The keeper runs with WhaleHub's manager key, but the contract limits it to one action: settling an opted-in wallet's own pending rewards and crediting every result to that same wallet. It cannot pick the amount, send funds elsewhere or change the settings.

The settings (whether the feature is on, the 150,000 BLUB minimum, the 20 AQUA floor, the 70/30 split and which vault is used) need the 2-of-3 admin multisig. The manager can pause runs in an incident without the multisig; pausing stops the keeper but never touches your stake. Opting out always succeeds, even while the feature is paused.

Risks

  • More AQUA locked. Restaking puts more AQUA into ICE locks, so it is not liquid until you unstake and wait out the cooldown.
  • BLUB floats. BLUB is a market-priced receipt, not a claim on a fixed amount of AQUA. See what BLUB is.
  • Vault exposure. The 30% sits in a BLUB-AQUA liquidity position, which carries pool and price risk. See impermanent loss.
  • Smart-contract risk. Auto-restake is new code in an upgradeable contract. Read DeFi risks.

How to switch it on

  1. Open the WhaleHub app and connect your wallet. On a phone with LOBSTR, use WalletConnect and keep LOBSTR open to approve.
  2. Make sure you have at least 150,000 BLUB staked. New to staking? Follow how to stake AQUA.
  3. On the Stake page, switch on auto-restake and approve the transaction in your wallet.
  4. That's it. Check back after your next cooldown ends to see the run in your history.

Frequently asked questions

Who can use WhaleHub auto-restake?

Any staker with at least 150,000 BLUB staked. The switch is on the Stake page. Below that amount it stays greyed out, and the page says why.

How often does auto-restake run?

Once a week per user. A keeper checks every day at 03:00 UTC and restakes for each opted-in wallet whose 7-day claim cooldown has ended and whose pending rewards are at least 20 AQUA.

Where do my restaked rewards go?

70% is locked again and added to your stake as BLUB, one BLUB per AQUA, with no protocol cut. 30% is deposited into WhaleHub's boosted vault as shares in your name. Both stay in your wallet's position; nothing is sent anywhere else.

Can I still claim my rewards manually?

Not while auto-restake is on, because the keeper settles them for you. Turn the switch off and manual claiming works again immediately. Turning it off cannot fail.

Can WhaleHub use auto-restake to move my funds?

No. The keeper can act only for wallets that switched the feature on, only on that wallet's own pending rewards, and every output is credited to that same wallet. It cannot change the settings; those need the 2-of-3 admin multisig.
